LABYRINTH FACILITATION

ISt. Johns City Park Labyrinth ~ Built in Fall, 2025
WHAT’S A LABYRINTH?
A Labyrinth is a circuitous path that can be made of stone, brick, branches, lines drawn in sand, or anything that can form the pattern of a Labyrinth. Nobody knows who invented Labyrinths or what their original intended purpose was. What we do know is that they exist in all cultures all over the world and date back to over 4,000 BCE. Many churches in Europe and the USA have Labyrinths. The most famous Medieval Labyrinth is in the Chartres Cathedral in France and was built ca. 1200 CE.

WHAT’S LABYRINTH FACILITATION?
As a Veriditas trained Labyrinth Facilitator, I help to educate and facilitate meaningful Labyrinth walks. I begin Facilitation events with a short talk about the history and significance of Labyrinths. We also cover the health/mindfulness benefits of incorporating Labyrinth walks as a part of regular self-care practices. Then, I briefly explain how to approach the Labyrinth, set an intention or ask a question, and then walk the Labyrinth. Depending on the type of facilitation, there may be time for walkers to process their walk and explore through dialogue, writing in journals, or creating art as a way to integrate the Labyrinth experience more fully.

WHAT KINDS OF GROUPS MIGHT DO A LABYRINTH WALK?
Any and all groups are welcome to create a Labyrinth walk! School groups, youth clubs, families, church congregations, work groups, any collection of people who are interested in having a Labyrinth experience.
For the first time people walk a Labyrinth, it is best to have a trained facilitator. You will have a better understanding for how to use the Labyrinth in a way that is meaningful for YOU. Although the path is the same for everyone to walk, not every walk is the same for every person (as in life). A trained facilitator will help groups understand their process individually and collectively.
